Not many.
Everyone is running around, trying to do last minute gift shopping.. saving their pennies for Snuggies and plasma TVs - so I only sold nine items in the whole of December. I can't really say that this was a problem for me since I too was running around trying to prepare for the holidays.
We re-assembled it properly, ran some beeswax over it and re-listed it for sale...
I got a really low-ball offer from someone but I knew this was a really nice piece so I held firm. He then tried to play coy with me and make me sweat it out a few days while he "considered" the situation. By the time he came back in a few days time, I had already sold it to someone else... you vacillate - you lose?

I noticed you sell and re-sell a lot of furniture. Is there a reason why you focused on that?
ReplyDeletehmmm... you're right and good question! I definitely focused on furniture because:
ReplyDeletea) it's something that everyone needs/wants in their home
b) it's not gender specific
c) it's not size specific (well, not really - but unlike clothing or something it's not small vs. extra large) or even age specific.
d) it's something I can reasonably clean/refinish to offer my customers a "new" product
Disadvantage to furniture is having the space to store everything and work on it... that is a major issue!

I am a stay-at-home mom. When we lived in our old home I did home daycare to help provide for our family. When we moved to the city we live in now 8 months ago, I was unable to find children to care for and was beginning to spend tear-filled evenings looking for daycare for my son so that I could go back to work.
But then I found your blog!
I began by selling a few things we had around our home. I reinvested the earnings from those sales and purchased a few things to resell. I have only been doing this for about a month but I have already made enough to convince my husband (and myself) that I can stay home with my son and still help out finacially. And, just to add a little icing to that cake, I LOVE IT!
I can't thank you enough for sharing your insights and experiences! And my family thanks you too!
Yay! I'm so happy to hear this.. I've been taking a break since I'm currently 6 1/2 months pregnant with #3 but I'm dying to get back into it - it is definitely addictive and the best part is - you ARE contributing to the household so double bonus. I'm even considering buying a truck this summer - stay tuned! :)
